Since April of this year, Dom De Paz has been super busy in the studio working on the production of his newest single, "Downward Spiral". This song will be released everywhere on September 6th, 2024.
This song a song he wrote in 2020, about a friend having trouble adjusting to the lockdown situation within her family, and managing life with her brother with a compromised immune system. While trying to understand where she is coming from, he felt hurt by her absence in his life, and was worried about how she was managing on her own. Not able to be of much help to her, he could only watch her slowly spiral out of control. To put it simply, it's about a girl who lost her mind.
The song debuted to the public on an Instagram live in July 2020, when it was incomplete and fresh. In February 2021, he finished the song with a bridge section for a songwriting elective with Professor Sarah Brindell at Berklee College of Music. Dom would go on to play it at live shows for the next few years, but didn't think too highly of it until a show at Bill's Bar in Boston in June 2023. Since that show, it has been the centerpiece of all of his performances.
Music and lyrics were both written by Dom, who is also singing and playing the piano and guitar in the song. Drums were played by Patrick Moran and bass by former roommate and good friend, Ian Banno. The session was engineered at ShortStack Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY, by Teddy Walsh, mixed by Harper James, and mastered by Seattle-based engineer, Matthew Wolk.
